The Linton Elementary School Student Council will be having a food drive November 13-17th. Students can bring in non-perishable food items to their homeroom teachers during that week. The class with the most items donated will earn an extra recess! The 5th grade students will be delivering the items to the Linton Blessing Boxes (with the remaining items being delivered to the Food Pantry at the Catholic Church) on November 21st.

Mrs. Daily’s 5th grade class has been putting their graduate profiles into action by developing professional development sessions to present to the entire elementary! Partners were assigned a STEM activity from the Flex Lab to master. They then worked to create an interactive professional development session for students K-5. They had to differentiate their presentations and objectives to accommodate different ages while also teaching them all the same skills. It has been a great leadership opportunity!

Today was an exciting day for Mrs. Brown’s fourth graders!! They all succeeded on the project that they had been working so hard on!! As an introduction to their persuasive essay writing unit, they worked together to learn how to write each part of one. They learned how to write an introduction paragraph, the reason paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph!! Their goal was to persuade Mr. Brewer to wear the ugly sweater that they created for him today during our Ugly Sweater Day. He came into their classroom and listened to their presentation of the essay they wrote and prepared. Then, he opened up his gift which was the ugly sweater that they created for him to wear. He left to think about it, and he quickly came back to their class with it on!!! They did it!! They persuaded him!! Boy, did he look great wearing it around all day!! They were able to see him several times!! Learning can be SO much fun!!!

Mr. Johnson's class enjoyed the STEM activity of building a paper airplane. The students' task was to design an airplane that would fly the farthest. The students could choose a variety of materials to try and accomplish this task. The students had to use several of the graduate profiles during this activity. A job well done by All especially to Cole, Atticus, and Colten for being the winner.

Harvesting Good Vibes canned food drive went fantastic with generous community members, families, and students allowed LSE to collect enough food to fill two community blessing boxes. We have had an amazing week with learning about farming and harvesting. Mr. Huber, the teachers, Mrs. Messmer and volunteers helped us create a special week! We want to say thank you to everyone who helped us make this a neat week! Linton Stockton Elementary is blessed by all the support!

5th graders were able to attend a stem field trip at NSWC (CRANE) Monday and Tuesday this week. They had to construct a couple of different models to perform a task such as making a marble maze so the marble goes as slow as possible and making a potato “flink” (not sink to the bottom, not float to the top but stay in the middle of water). They collaborated and showed their effective communication skills to work together and complete the task!

First grade had a great field trip to the VU/Purdue Agricultural Center today. They planted pumpkin seeds, weighed and measured pumpkins, tested a hypothesis to see if pumpkins sink or float and learned that all pumpkins float!! Then they took a tractor ride out to a pumpkin patch and got to pick their very own pumpkin to bring home. They ended their trip with a picnic lunch on the lawn. It was a great day in first grade!
