It is my pleasure to welcome our returning families and those who are new to Linton-Stockton to the 2021-2022 school year.  Our teachers have been very busy this summer in professional development of new English Language Arts and Math curriculum.  Our maintenance staff are in the process of replacing every fixture in the corporation with new LED lights to brighten all of our learning spaces.   Our custodians have worked tirelessly to get our schools in tip top condition for the safe and welcoming return of our students. Our administration is putting the finishing touches on schedules, class lists, and staffing to best provide a quality education for our learners.

Last evening our School Board approved our COVID Return to School Plan.   The document describing our procedures is included in this email. We will continue to be vigilant in the mitigation of the COVID as we cautiously move forward with fewer restrictions.  We ask that you understand this plan can fluctuate based on the spread of the virus within our school community.

We are very excited to offer an Afterschool Program for students in grades K-12.  This program will begin on Monday, August 16th and be open every Monday through Friday on school days. The hours of operation will be from dismissal to 5:30pm Monday through Thursday and dismissal to 5:00pm on Fridays.  Student participation is based on family need or desire and can be everyday or sporadic.  The program for students in grade K-5 will take place at the elementary school and students 6-12 at the high school.  This program is FREE to all!  As a part of the program, activities include a daily snack, homework help and tutoring, study tables for MS/HS, SEL Moments, teacher-led choices and physical challenges. More information will be available at our Open House and sent home with students the first week of school.

Also new this year is weekly professional development for teachers.  In order to accommodate this important aspect of school improvement, school will be dismissed at 2:00pm every Friday beginning August 13th.  Parent pick-up and bus dismissal will be moved to 2:00pm.  Principals will communicate the daily schedule in detail.

Our start of school schedule is as follows:

                Monday, August 9th        Corporation-Wide Open House  5:00pm-7:00pm

Tuesday, August 10th      1st Day for grades 1-12

Thursday, August 12th     1st day for Kindergarten

Monday, August 16th       1st day for Preschool

The Corporation-Wide Open House will be held from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Monday, August 9th.  This is an opportunity for students to find their new classrooms, drop off supplies, and try to open those pesky lockers.

Preschool and Kindergarten students will begin on the delayed start schedule, as listed above, in order to have individual meetings between the student, teacher and parents.  Teachers will reach out to parents to schedule these meetings.

Online registration is open for all Linton-Stockton Schools.  To get started login to your family Harmony account. If you need assistance the offices at each school are open Monday through Thursday from 8:00am to 4:00pm.

The USDA has extended the FREE meal program for all students through the 2021-2022 school year.  This program began as a response to the financial stresses placed on families during the Pandemic.  At LSSC these meals include breakfast and lunch every day.  The al-a carte and extra milk offerings will continue as in the past, however, these will come at a cost to the students.  Although the meals will be free this year, parents wishing to take advantage of Textbook Assistance, if eligible, must still complete the Free & Reduced paperwork included with registration.

If you know of a family new to the area or considering enrolling at LSSC, please spread the word that tours of our schools are available by calling the individual school building.  (ELEM 812-847-6039 or MS and HS at 812-847-6024)

Thank you for choosing LSSC and entrusting the education of your child(ren) and youth to our professional and caring staff.  I am so proud to be a member of this school community and am so looking forward to the return of our students.  It’s going to be a great year!
